ROCK OUT AT THE MOUNTAIN

After that last run down the mountain on spring Saturdays, stash your gear and head to the ski area base for the Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat Free Music Series. Meet up with your friends, grab a drink or app, and dance to everything from honky tonk to bluegrass. All bands begin playing at 3:30 p. m. www.steamboat.com | 970-879-6111

March 1 – The Pimps of Joytime: A dance party might break out when this Brooklyn-based band plays their blend of Afro-beat, salsa, electronica and rock and roll.

March 8 – The Wailers: They played with Bob Marley and now bring their Caribbean rhythms around the world... and to Steamboat.

March 15 – New Orleans Suspects: Experienced musicians create high-energy music rooted in modern New Orleans sound, jazz, soul, funk and boogie-woogie.

March 22 – Naia Kete: A contestant on Season 2 of the Voice, Naia inspires listeners with her honest, fresh and soulful pop.

March 29 – Giving Tree Band: Harmonized, down-home style. Called “the American answer to Mumford & Sons.”

April 5 – Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds: The Sister’s strong, bluesy voice is backed by brass, harmonica, bass, drums and guitar.

April 12 – MarchFourth Marching Band: With marching band costumes, a five-piece percussion corps and seven-part brass section, this band turns music into entertainment.

April 13 (Closing Day) – G. Love and Special Sauce: The three-member alternative funk band with a laid-black bluesy sound gets everyone grooving.

CELEBRATE MOUNTAIN STYLE

For a memorable Valentine’s Day, or a magical evening out, take a snowcat high atop the mountain to the new Four Points Lodge for a five-course culinary experience rooted in the traditions and flavors of Northern Italy. Or enjoy a snowcat sleigh ride under the stars to a gourmet Scandinavian-inspired dinner at Ragnar’s.

Watch fireworks sparkle over the snow during the Torchlight Parade and fireworks shows. A spectacular on-snow parade down the mountain, lit only by glowing torches, is followed by dazzling fireworks. Dress warmly and watch the festivities from the Bear River Deck or Gondola Square, Friday, Feb. 14, and Monday, March 17.

Celebrate Mardi Gras mountain style with free concerts, parades, a Cajun barbecue, beer festival and more, all at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area from Thursday, Feb. 27, through Tuesday, March 4. Don’t miss the Fat Tuesday celebration featuring snow sculpture contests at the chairlifts, special activities, and plenty of beads to go around.

Was that a leprechaun skiing down Buddy’s Run? You won’t know unless you check out St. Patrick’s Day on the mountain. Don’t forget your green. www.steamboat.com | 970-879-6111

SPRINGALICIOUS

Grab your family and friends and head to the Steamboat Ski Area for the grand finale events. www.steamboat.com | 970-879-6111

CARDBOARD CLASSIC

Cardboard, glue, string, paint, duct tape and masking tape. With a thoughtful team, those materials can deliver speed. Past Cardboard Classic races have featured Viking ships, motorcycles, a bulldozer, a massive doughnut – the possibilities are endless. The resulting race is unique, creative and hilarious. Starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12 at the base of the ski area.

SPLASHDOWN POND SKIMMING COMPETITION

Wear a wild outfit and keep up your speed as you attempt to cross a frigid pond in the snow at the mountain's base. The competition is judged on distance skimmed, outfit creativity and crowd response. If you’re not brave enough to jump in the icy waters, you can cheer for your favorites. Sunday, April 13.

CLOSING DAY

The best way to bid farewell to another phenomenal season: assemble a group of friends, and enjoy your favorite runs on the mountain. When you get to the base, don’t miss the Pond Skim or the final free concert. And remember – next ski season will be here before you know it. Sunday, April 13.
